Evansville notched the game's opening goal at the 3:39 mark of the first period. Jordan Sims took advantage of an Atlanta turnover and broke into Gladiator territory down the far wing. The Fort Wayne, IN native threw a backhand in between the legs of Atlanta goaltender Kent Patterson from the left circle and gave Evansville a 1-0 lead.
